Awards & Recognition

The RASC Kingston Centre has a proud tradition of recognizing excellence in astronomy, from honouring local contributions to celebrating national achievement. Our awards programme includes the Centre’s own A. Vibert Douglas Award for outstanding service, the Leo Enright Prize in Astronomy for young scientists at the annual FLASF science fair, national awards received by our members from the RASC, and observing certificates earned through dedicated work under the night sky.

A. Vibert Douglas Award

Named after the Centre’s founder and renowned astrophysicist, this award recognizes outstanding contributions to the Kingston Centre through long-term dedication, leadership, and service to amateur astronomy in our community.

FLASF Leo Enright Prize in Astronomy

Sponsored by the RASC Kingston Centre at the annual Frontenac, Lennox & Addington Science Fair (FLASF), this prize awards 50 and a Beginner’s Observing Guide to the student with the best astronomy-related project. Named in memory of Leo Enright, a beloved member and passionate advocate for astronomy education.

National Awards

The RASC awards a number of national honours each year to promote and advance astronomy in Canada. Several Kingston Centre members have received recognition for their contributions to observing, education, and service at the national level.

Observing Certificates

The RASC offers observing certificate programmes to encourage members to develop their skills and explore the night sky. From the introductory Explore the Universe to the advanced Messier and Finest NGC catalogues, these certificates mark real milestones in an observer’s journey.

Minor Planets

A number of minor planets (asteroids) have been named in honour of RASC Kingston Centre members, Queen’s University astronomers, and individuals with close ties to our community. The list includes upcoming oppositions for observation planning.
