Total Solar Eclipse 2017 August 21

Two of the RASC-Kingston Center members, Kim Hay & Kevin Kell, travelled to their staging area of Devils Tower Wyoming, and then drove 3 hours into the Zone of Totality on the morning of Monday 2017 August 21st, south of Jay Em Wyoming.
This is a link to the raw video with a timestamp onscreen, lasting approx 2 hours 19 minutes 29 seconds (less than the total event time due to equipment failure)

Partial Solar Eclipse viewing in Kingston Mon Aug 21

Monday 2017 August 21, 1pm to 4pm
Confederation Park, Ontario Street across from City Hall.
Kingston Centre members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will be teaming up with Queen's University and Royal MIlitaryCollege (RMC) graduate students
to help give you a glimpse of the 2017 Solar Eclipse.
While the event is a total solar eclipse this is not the case for our location in Kingston . We will however see greater than 50% of the sun blocked by the Moon.

2017 Perseid Meteor Shower

The 2017 Perseids will peak on the night of Saturday 2017 August 12 and early morning hours of Sunday August 13.
This year, a Waning Gibbous Moon may hinder a good view of the meteor shower.  Full moon is on Monday August 7th.
The best method to visually observe this meteor shower:
- find a place in your backyard away from streetlights and house lights.
